It has been a year since His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took office as President of the UAE, and under his able leadership the country has achieved impressive results.
From launching the longest space mission in the Arab world to becoming a beacon of hope and trust in the region, the UAE has gone from strength to strength, as Sheikh Mohammed promised in his first address to the nation.
The KT team looks back at how this great leader worked hard to realize his vision for the country.
seek peace
“It is the UAE’s policy to continue to safeguard peace and stability in the region and the wider world, supporting others and championing wisdom and cooperation for the benefit of humanity.”
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is credited as the architect of the groundbreaking Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and the UAE. The president has long been at the forefront of maintaining peace in the region. Since taking office, his efforts have multiplied.
In August last year, the UAE improved relations with Iran by sending an ambassador to Iran for the first time since relations between the two countries deteriorated in 2016. In return, Iran appointed an ambassador to the UAE earlier this year. By ensuring friendly relations with countries around the world, the UAE has transformed itself into a beacon of peace and hope in the region.
hope in youth
“We are fortunate to have many resources, especially our highly skilled human capital, as the UAE has a large pool of outstanding young talent.”
A firm believer in the power of youth, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has taken several measures to engage and engage youth in the country. Previously, during his tenure as Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek), he forged partnerships with world-renowned educational institutions and think tanks, many of which established bases in the country, such as New York University and the Sorbonne University.
He established the Mohamed bin Zayed Council (MBZMFG) for future generations, which brings together policymakers, government officials, experts and entrepreneurs to engage with young players and help them shape the future of the country.
UAE: A Reliable Energy Supplier
“We will continue to strengthen our nation’s position as a reliable energy supplier and support global energy security as a fundamental driver of global economic growth and development.”
The UAE continues to be at the forefront of providing reliable energy. Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), one of the largest utility providers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, oversees the financial and operational growth of Abu Dhabi’s hydropower industry.
Through the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the UAE aims to produce safe, clean and reliable electricity to support the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) is Abu Dhabi’s sole hydropower management agency and is increasingly reliant on renewable energy.
It is also diversifying generation sources, including solar and nuclear, to bring clean electricity to the country’s energy grid. Another company, SWS Holding, focuses on providing innovative water resource management solutions and strives to provide world-class solutions that meet industry and community needs.
At the same time, Tadweer, a waste management company in Abu Dhabi, covers the entire waste value chain l, managing a total of 10 million tons of waste every year.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed once said: “Those who lead do three things. First, science can be manipulated; second, knowledge can be invested heavily in education; third , a very wise leadership with a clear vision and a roadmap in the right direction.” With his vision and determination for the country, the UAE has a very bright future.
