The weather is nice and cool, and we’re here to match that energy…
If you are looking for some cool things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend. We’ve got you covered, just slip on those festive sweaters, turn around and relax.
Friday 16 December
New Movies of the Week
Avatar is now in cinemas across the UAE. We attended the preview and, despite not being fans of the original film, were blown away by the sequel’s visual spectacle. You can read our full review herebut this is our conclusion: I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve witnessed a film revolution. This movie is in it. Not for the story, and not necessarily for the show. But truly great movies can come from a place beyond.
Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in cinemas across the UAE on December 16.booking Now.
mother of all holidays
Mother of the Nation Festival (MOTN) will be rerun at Abu Dhabi’s Corniche until 18 December. It is an event to celebrate the legacy of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation. The festivities were wide-ranging, with the venue occupying a large swath of the recreational space on the waterfront Corniche. Tickets for the 2022 edition are on sale via: ticketmaster.ae Website, from only Dhs30. The family-focused fun is divided into six themed zones, where guests have the opportunity to entertain, inspire and dine out in curated pop-up yum-stufferies. There is a strong stimulating cultural balance. We are all about these ratios.
Shopping in Winter Wonderland
This Friday, Bawabat Al Sharq will open its winter wonderland with a sleigh ride for the whole family. Kids can happily build snowmen and throw snowballs (“not facing Aaron”), and winter showers are likely to be sprinkled from above by snow cannons. Also running at the mall is the year-end sale and shopping wins, with the top prize being an all-new Lincoln Nautilus SUV.
Bawabat Al Sharq Mall, Baniyas, Friday to Sunday, 2pm to 10am. @bawabatalsharqmall
Saturday 17 December

Here you will be able to meet the stars of Hollywood blockbuster franchises, Fast & Furious — Ludacris, Cody Walker and Tyrese Gibson. Car shows (including some famous four-wheel movie stars), live art, kids’ zone, racing simulators, go-karts, drag racing, track days, live football performances with Sean Garnier, Pete Sabo’s DJ performance, drift show and closing concert by Ludacris himself.

How do you dunes?
The UAE’s desert regions hold many wonders, but few match them Fossil Dunes of Al Wathba. These naturally occurring monoliths are prominent, jagged boulders forged over the past 120,000 years, a reminder of the emirate’s storied geological history. Not far from the Al Wathba Wildlife Sanctuary (also well worth a visit), this vast area covers more than 1,700 fossilized sand dunes and has been designated a protected landmark. The Al Wathba Fossil Dunes Reserve now houses a visitor centre, a viewing area, an amphitheater and 7 kilometers of hiking trails with educational signage explaining the origin and cultural significance of these magnificent sandstone remains.
Jazz Band > Jazz Hands
penelopeBrasserie & Jazz Bar Américain at Yas Marina is one of Abu Dhabi’s coolest and most exciting openings for 2022. The short beachfront terrace does a great job of its name, offering an unmistakable Riviera vibe, a sizzling Mediterranean menu, suitably chic cocktails, and unlike some of the other ‘claimants’ in the country, genuine jazz . A little pro tip for you: Now is really the perfect time to look down, they have 50% off their entire food menu for the month of December, some great deals for festive festivities, and a new Ladies Night Sunset aperitif deals on Wednesdays and nightly.

Sunday 18 December
Fra-Argy Bargains
It’s the World Cup final this Sunday (7pm) – Argentina vs France, Messi vs Mbappe beat We’ve been waiting. But where’s the best “squad goal” to watch it? Cooper’s has always been a favorite of sports fans in the Capital (it’s a constant favorite, not “The Old Firm favorite”), and it’s not hard to see why. It’s a nifty hanging point, with a big screen — making the referee a big enough target to throw out whatever life advice you see fit. They’ve also got some great deals for the International Football Festival, including AED 95 beer on tap. The back of the net.
Park Rotana, Park Rotana Complex Road, near Khalifa Park, open daily from noon to 2am. Tel: (02) 657 3317, @parkrotana
Tea in Stratos Spheres
Throughout December, from Thursdays to Sundays, Stratos will be offering special festive editions of their popular Tippling Tea, offering delicate treats inspired by the season and homemade beverages to pair with your traditional tea companions.
Until December 25th, Dhs99 for soft houses and Dhs125 for houses, from 2pm to 4pm. @leroyalmeridienabudhabi
Roar
The 400-hectare park’s animal registry includes gorillas, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, jaguars, lemurs, hippos, chimpanzees, wolves and crocodiles. It also offers experiences off the beaten track, with Al Ain Zoo recently opening a pair of mountain bike experience (as low as Dhs15), allowing you to explore the local landscape on your own.For those who love the Steve Irwin vibe, the zoo is now offering visitors the rare chance to befriend Mufasa by visiting the Lions Den and feeding the king of the jungle. Blimey, what a ripper. At this stage, we should point out that safety equipment is provided, including cage cars. Hop on the back of the all-terrain truck, carefully grab the tongs, and shove the meat through the gap in the cage and into the mouth of the waiting lion. Wouldn’t it be a nice change this time, you’re the person behind the cage, not the animal?
Al Ain Zoo, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, from 10 am to 6 pm every day, the adult price of the park is Dhs29, and the lion feeding experience is Dhs150 on Friday and Saturday. Alan Zoo.ae
