stars under the stars
The cinema in the park is back at Umm Al Emarat Park – a selection of films that are free to watch (although you’ll have to pay the AED10 park entry fee) are shown every Friday and Saturday outside sweat season. This weekend’s lineup (Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January) includes a strong Penguin empowerment biopic, happy feet 2 – The animated story of Mumble (Elijah Wood), a tap-dancing fishbird (let’s be honest, they should be called fishbirds) encourages viewers to celebrate differences and hop around to the sweet jam of the soundtrack.saturday is The Croods – A prehistoric romp from DreamWorks Studios that teaches kids the importance of family, and the personalities within a family. Never mess with grandma.
If you’re heading in that direction, you should also visit the Park Market, which is held every Friday and Saturday until March 18, 2023 between 4pm and 11pm. You’ll find items you never knew you wanted like candles, clothes, accessories, antiques, jewelry, cosmetics, fragrances and organic produce. There are also fun activities for kids – fly a kite, play with bubbles and slime, plus educational art, manipulative drawing, games of skill, magic show, clown show, storytelling and musical performances
You’ll see screenings at 6pm and 8pm – popcorn available for purchase on site. In Mushrif area, the fee to enter the park is Dhs10 per person. Located in Umm Al Emarat Park, ummalemaratpark.ae website

Isaias vibe
If you’ve made up your mind that 2023 should be the year of “only good vibes” – you’re in luck. If there are warnings about eating in moderation there, it’s slightly less. One of the UAE’s most popular food truck festivals, Miami Vibes, has reopened at a brand new location in Abu Dhabi. It will be held for the first time at the Yas Creative Center on Yas Island from Friday 13th January to Friday 27th January. This time, the theme is purple rain, so instead of the endless shades of bubblegum, magenta, and blush you’re used to, it’s decked out in shades of violet, lavender, amethyst, and fuchsia. Participating brands include boutique bakery MYLK; Eats Hub food truck; Moon Cafe; Get Beefy, chocolatier Gottlich; Coal Food Truck; and Ava Cafe.

glasgow smiles better
If you can understand a Glasgow accent (the gentleman has a softer accent than most), then there’s no reason (including previous engagements) not to go to the Etihad Arena to watch Kevin Bridges’ Contest. Tickets are still available from Dhs195.He is probably best known for his frequent appearances on British television panel shows, including would i lie to you, do i have news for youBridges also performed live in apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy RoadshowThe Scot arrives with his Overdue Catch up world tour and after years of touring solo and receiving a standing ovation, he has established himself as one of the best comedians of his generation. We might even say, in terms of storytelling – one of the greatest of all time. Commenting on the upcoming show, Bridges said: “I’m excited to be back in the UAE in January – it’s great to play in Abu Dhabi this time for a change of mood! Some hotel somewhere, so it’s a pleasure to be back in such a large venue for my first solo exhibition in the capital.”

EL&N fashion show
Possibly the most exciting addition to the capital’s food truck fleet in 2023 so far is the EL&N Café on the Yas Bay waterfront. You’ll find it opposite the Etihad Arena, next to the Emerging Man sculpture. This food truck is essentially a starter for a full-fledged stationary cafe opening in Yas Bay sometime in the near future. The EL&N manifesto is all about incorporating dreamy aesthetics – shocking pinks, neon and rich florals with red hots, personalities, pastries made for the Insta feed, desserts, luxury coffee, mocktails, cheesecakes Soda and sandwiches.
