UAE Public Holidays 2024: Unveiling Dates for 13 Days Off and 4 Extended Weekends

4 Extended Weekends In an exciting revelation, the UAE Cabinet has unveiled a list of at least 13 public holidays for 2024, promising residents a year of festivities and breaks. Notably, four of these occasions will create extended weekends, providing an excellent opportunity for relaxation and leisure.

Start of the Year with a Long Weekend

The year kicks off with a three-day weekend as January 1 falls conveniently on a Monday. This New Year’s break allows residents to usher in 2024 with an extra day of rest after the celebrations on December 31.

Ramadan’s Grand Finale: A Six-Day Extravaganza

The conclusion of Ramadan brings a substantial break, with a public holiday from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3. Depending on the moon sighting, this break could extend to four or five days, seamlessly blending with the Saturday-Sunday weekend.

Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha: A Five-Day Celebration

Marking the holiest day in Islam, Arafah Day on Dhul Hijjah 9 is followed by the three-day celebration of Eid Al Adha. This results in a five-day break from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19, inclusive of the preceding weekend on June 15.

Mid-Year Respite: Muharram 1: 4 Extended Weekends

A noteworthy break occurs with Muharram 1, the first day of the Hijri year, expected on Sunday, July 7. While not forming an extended weekend, it grants a day off for those without a Sunday weekend.

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday and Year-End Extravaganza: 4 Extended Weekends

The observance of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, believed to be on Rabi Al Awwal 12, does not have an immediately clear corresponding Gregorian calendar date. The year concludes with a grand four-day holiday from December 2 to December 5, encompassing the National Day on Monday and Tuesday, coupled with the Saturday-Sunday weekend.

Opportunities for Leisure and Travel

These holidays offer residents ample opportunities to plan vacations or leisure activities, contributing to a well-deserved work-life balance. The diverse celebrations throughout the year promise a mix of cultural and festive experiences for UAE residents.
