13 Syrian soldiers killed in bomb attack: official media | Conflict News

[ad_1]

Syrian National Television reported that 13 soldiers were killed in the attack and three others were injured during the peak hours of Damascus.

According to a national television report, early Wednesday, two roadside bomb explosions near a bus carrying troops in the Syrian capital Damascus killed at least 13 soldiers and injured three others.

Syrian State Television broadcast footage of a scorched bus in the center of Damascus, saying that the explosion occurred during peak hours when people went to work and school.

When the bus was on the Hafez al-Assad bridge, two explosive devices exploded, adding that the third device was dismantled by an army engineering unit, which officials described as a “terrorist” explosion.

There have been several attacks on military vehicles by suspected Islamic State (ISIS) militants in eastern Syria this year. They are still operating in vast desert areas.

As the army loyal to President Bashar al-Assad controlled the rebel enclaves around the city, bombings in Damascus were rare. With the help of Russia’s military presence and Iranian militias, Assad now controls most of the country.

The conflict that began in Syria in March 2011 resulted in more than 350,000 deaths, and half of the country’s population was displaced, including 5 million overseas refugees.
