After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the long-awaited SABIS Global Sports Championship (formerly known as the SABIS Regional Championships) finally celebrated its 13th edition this year, with the competition between the International School of Choueifat, Sharjah (ISC-Sharjah) and the International School of Choueifat, Ajman (ISC-Ajman) in the UAE, on April 28 to 30 days.
Every edition of the competition sees more and more schools and countries taking part. This year, for the first time, Brazil and China participated in the event, which brought together around 1,000 students representing SABIS schools from different countries around the world, including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kenya, Egypt, Jordan, Kurdistan— — Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Germany.

The event provides an ideal opportunity for student-athletes from SABIS schools from five continents to meet in a friendly atmosphere and compete for three days in competitions that include swimming, basketball, soccer and track and field.
Since its establishment in 2002, SABIS Global Sports Championship Much more than just a sporting event that brings together SABIS students from all over the world. Consistent with SABIS Network’s commitment to empowering students to reach their full potential, this competition not only enables students to improve their motor skills, but also instills in them a valuable set of life skills and qualities, making them champions at all levels and Giving them a huge advantage in college and beyond.

The SABIS Global Sports Championship also encourages students to foster diversity and expand their social networks through exposure to new cultures and forging lifelong friendships. “At SABIS, we have always believed that sport is more than winning trophies and medals,” said Victor Saad, SABIS Vice President. “It is a way to encourage a healthy lifestyle, develop good habits and develop a high level of self-confidence and discipline. On April 27, 2023, a grand opening ceremony will mark the start of the competition, welcoming dignitaries and official representatives alongside the contestants.

The ceremony will include an entry parade of participating teams carrying their national flags, followed by remarks from guest speakers and concluding with live entertainment and student performances honoring each country from the SABIS network.
