Roommate, a video of a white teenager is circulating on social media. The language she uses to her classmate, 14-year-old Nya Sigin, is disturbing. The girl in the video, identified as Jelen Crooks of Pryor Lake High School, repeatedly uses the N word and encourages Xi Jin to end her life.
The Prier Lake School District and Savage Police Department have launched an investigation into the video. Nya Sigin recently collaborated with Korea Science and Technology Park Explain how difficult she has been since seeing the video.
“This is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life,” Nya said. “I am confused. I really don’t know what I did to be worthy of it. When I first saw the video, I hadn’t really dealt with what happened.”
Nya’s sister Elizabeth Sigin also joined her. She said that Crooks’ behavior was not an isolated incident and urged the police and the school district to hold her accountable for harassing Sigin’s family. Nya also publicly recounted her struggles with anxiety and depression, and revealed that she attempted suicide in May.
“I finally entered a part of my life, and I feel I finally overcome this,” she said. “The whole situation has happened, and it feels like a relapse.”
Dr. Teri Staloch, head of the Lake Priest School District, issued a statement regarding Crooks’ behavior.
“Our school does not tolerate racism and hate speech. The investigation of the students who participated in the video is ongoing, and we will take appropriate action,” the statement read. “We remain focused on providing a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.”
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, but Nya Sigin expresses gratitude to people who shared her story on social media.
“This is everyone’s deepest love for me and my family’s support,” Nya said. “Honestly, it’s like an unexplainable feeling. I can’t even express my gratitude to everyone.”
As the story continues to develop, please update with us, roommate.
