According to the latest figures from the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), overnight stays by German Gulf nationals increased by 180% in the first three quarters of this year compared to the same period in 2021.
GCC nationals made more than 872,000 overnight stays, making the Gulf region Germany’s largest source market from Asia in the first nine months of 2022.
In 2021, the number of GCC nationals visiting the country stands at 311,000, a strong growth. However, it is still down 34.5% compared to the pre-pandemic figure in 2019, which not only shows a lot of room for future growth, but also shows the logic of the tourism board’s expectation that the gap will narrow further next year.
“We continue to see a strong pull from the GCC region, with tourists looking for a culturally rich experience,” said Yamina Sofo, Director of Sales and Marketing at the German National Tourist Board, the GNTB regional office.
“Our current aim is to continue to attract visitors from the region and strive to match the numbers we welcomed before the COVID-19 pandemic. Our impressive performance this year compared to 2021 demonstrates our diverse activities and products are engaging and effectively engaging audiences.”
Over the January-September 2022 period, total overnight stays in Asian source markets exceeded 2.9 million, a 283% increase over the same period in 2021. The upsurge shows travelers are determined to travel more than usual.
To further attract tourists – especially from within the GCC – GNTB has launched three different campaigns this year, offering comprehensive tours across the country. These activities are directly attributable to higher foot traffic in the GCC as per market demand.
“German.Local.Culture” focuses on raising awareness of a host of traditional experiences, including ethnic crafts and customs, local cuisine, and the diversity of historic cities, while “Embracing German Nature” features a host of outdoor activities, featuring natural centered activities.
“Feel Good” focuses on sustainable travel, emphasizing the importance of adopting environmentally friendly practices when traveling. In this campaign, GNTB supports its federal states and towns to highlight their innovative transport solutions and accommodation, as well as eco-friendly restaurants and sustainable tourism events – all of which ensure exciting city holidays that can be delivered in an ecologically responsible manner. way to enjoy. – trade arab news agency
