But the battle isn’t just on the track — something happens on the track too. The IWC has caught Lewis Hamilton and TAG Heuer, Red Bull’s sponsor since 2016, may not be able to get a return on their investment given Mercedes’ dominance in F1.

That changed when Verstappen took the title in 2021. Even better for Tag Heuer, the Dutchman saw the watch play a major role in his success.

Someone asked him, “So watches are like milestones in your career. Did you add memories to some of the watches in your collection?

Max replied: “Well, I especially think I got a TAG Heuer Monaco gift last year too, and for me, I guess it’s been a bit of a lucky year. So I basically wore it for the rest of the F1 season, so that was a good choice. Something I will remember. “

This watch is a modern version of the original Monaco roll out 1969. It is made of lightweight titanium. He also wore the $6,300 masterpiece during the post-win celebrations in Abu Dhabi. Superstitions among sports stars are common. It wasn’t a shock that Max found out that his winning watch was a lucky charm for him.

Why does Max Verstappen rely on century-old technology?

The interviewer asked an interesting question, “Why do we wear watches with 17th century technology? Why do we even wear these things? We have better options!”

To this, Verstappen replied, “I don’t know if it’s better [modern watch technology], just not the same. I love looking at the watch, it’s all about the shape and how it feels when actually wearing it, there’s also a little weight on the wrist. ”

“You can always look at your phone to see the time, but it’s boring. Why are you wearing a bracelet or necklace or you know what I mean? Same. “
