5 things to know about the new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi

The long-awaited sea world Abu DhabiThe region’s first marine life theme park finally opened its doors to the public after a grand opening ceremony. Developed by Miral in partnership with SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, the 1,83,000-square-metre park on Yas Island is home to more than 150 species of marine animals and is the perfect destination for families, especially those curious about the deep sea people. It includes one of the largest aquariums in the world, tons of dining and shopping experiences, daring roller coasters, and more. Read on to find out what makes this sea world special.

The park is divided into eight “realms” that take visitors on a journey from the tropics to the poles. Each area has its own unique theme, aesthetics, attractions, restaurants and shopping malls that will fascinate visitors.

  • an ocean: This is the hub of the park with gates to other areas and the Animal Care Center. The main attraction of this space is the 360-degree media experience that explores the underwater world.
  • Landing point: The SeaWorld Abu Dhabi website describes the domain as a “beautiful hidden cove in America’s rugged Pacific Northwest”. Here you’ll witness it all – from sea lions perched on rocks, barking at each other and jumping into choppy water, to lighting conditions that simulate currents, wave motion and the animals’ natural surroundings. The Advanced Animal Lighting System (AALS) accurately reproduces night, day and seasonal light cycles like those found in the Pacific Northwest, transporting you to that part of the world.
  • tropical ocean: As the name suggests, Tropical Seas is filled with sunshine, waterfalls, rainforests and glistening lagoons. Home to a wide variety of animals including dolphins, flamingos, macaws and other tropical fauna, it’s also home to the manta ray coaster. Its eight dining options make it even more attractive.
  • Arctic: This temperature-regulated field is sure to let you experience the extreme cold. With cute walruses and sea otters gliding around, the main attraction in this area is the Hypersphere 360° ride, which, as the name suggests, is a ride in a giant sphere that offers a 360º multimedia immersive experience to explore the underwater world.
  • Abu Dhabi Marine: This field goes deep into the Arabian bay A marine ecosystem with animals such as dugongs, sea snakes, sea turtles, bamboo sharks and gliding rays. Besides fauna, it also serves authentic Arabic cuisine, bringing together the usual favorites – sweets and coffee.
  • Antarctica: This field depicts authentic Antarctic conditions with 1°C air temperature and 7°C water temperature, providing the ideal climate for the field’s main attraction – the penguins. The full-spectrum animal lighting system replicates the seasonal changes in Antarctica, ensuring optimal animal welfare conditions; whether during molting season, nesting season or any other day of the year. Six different species of penguins can be seen in this area.
  • micro ocean: Described as a “small is big underwater playground,” the domain, designed like a sea bed, has exciting rides to keep visitors entertained. With exceptional experiences and exciting dining options, this kingdom is perfect for kids and adults alike.
  • endless ocean: Home to the largest aquarium with more than 68,000 animals such as sharks, rays and schools of fish, the kingdom is as mysterious and fascinating as it sounds.

Located in Tropical Ocean Kingdom, Manta Coaster is one of the most exciting experiences in the park. According to its website, the ride offers guests a trip across the ocean and explores coral reefs and shipwrecks with the Manta Squadron. What makes this ride stand out is that it features the world’s first zero-g flip, the world’s first twisted tandem dive, and 17 airtimes!

Sea World Abu Dhabi has one of the largest and most expansive marine life aquariums in the world. Containing 25 million liters of water, this aquarium is home to a variety of aquatic animals. Located in the realm of the endless ocean, this stunning experience is a must-see at the park.

The world’s largest LED screen

The park has many state-of-the-art facilities and also has the world’s largest LED screen, comfirmed Designed by James Lodder, director of general engineering at Holovis, the design firm that founded it. The firm was also responsible for the immersive audio-visual installation at the groundbreaking Mission Ferrari attraction at the adjacent Ferrari World. Here, the LED screen is a gigantic cylinder that wraps around its entire perimeter – from 5 meters off the ground to 21 meters off the ground – and is 227 meters wide, making room for some spectacular visuals.
