How much have you been to..?
Abu Dhabi’s dining scene is in a constant, ever-changing torrent of food, growing with each new flood. Even though we’re not halfway to 2023, we’ve already seen a huge wave of change and these are just a few of the restaurants and bars we’re opening in Abu Dhabi this year.
sticky rice
This Dubai-based homegrown gem, an Emirati family-run Thai restaurant, has now made its home in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Mall. It’s a restaurant with a huge following in Dubai, built on mouthwatering, sometimes hard-to-pronounce Bangkok food—pad krapow, tamarind chicken wings, kanom tom, tom yum and, of course, mango sticky rice.

The extensive menu features all the classics including their signature milkshakes, fresh juices and of course sandwiches and bowls.

Love the vibe
Opening first in Al Wasl and then licensed in DIFC, it was only a matter of time before Vibe Cafe made its way to the capital. You’ll find it in the city of Khalifa, an area that has exploded in quality and variety of cuisine over the past few years. The Love Vibe bills itself as a more “mature” version of its VIBE sister – while maintaining the electronic aesthetics that are standard for these brands, other decorative elements take on a more refined look.

Penelope’s
I’m going to come out right away and say, penelopeBrasserie & Jazz Bar Américain at Yas Marina is one of Abu Dhabi’s coolest and most exciting openings for 2022. The short beachfront terrace does a great job of its name, offering an unmistakable Riviera vibe, a sizzling Mediterranean menu, suitably chic cocktails, and unlike some of the other ‘claimants’ in the country, genuine jazz . There’s something particularly sparkling in the bones of Penelope’s, owned by local hospitality legends Layla Kardan (Papillion, Dubai) and Hamdan Al Khafaji (La Carnita), whose concept was conceived by Eddie Ghazal (Canary Club, Dubai). The logo of this all-star trio has been clearly imprinted in the design style of the entire venue. You can read the full review here.

Huna Canteen
When you think of a plate of delicious food, the first thing that may come to your mind is not the food court but the brand new hidden Yas Mall is all about dispelling these prejudices and now offers a culinary unit in the capital, from casual to fine dining firepower. You’ll find Huna on the ground floor of the mall, towards the main entrance, opposite Hamley’s. Visually, it’s distinctly designed from the mall – subdued lighting and neighborhoods of hawker-style restaurant facades, a unique “Asian Kitchen” area and an Art Deco terrace dominated by open-air Habib Beirut counters. Restaurants include BB Social Dining, Tazal, Saigon, Taco Ville, Blu Fried Chicken, Elixir Bunn, Maxzi The Good Food Shop, Habib Beirut, Philotimos. close record cafe
As journalists, we have mixed feelings when we hear “nondisclosure.” Yes, it’s juicy gossip, but what can we do with it? Nothing until the information enters the public domain, or we’re just burning with the anxiety of it all. Thankfully, the only thing burning in this part cafe part digital art gallery is the sizzling beats delivered by the resident DJ. Find it at Al Qana.
