542 stranded Nigerians return from UAE

This National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) 542 stranded Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been received.

Manzo Ezekiel, head of NEMA news, confirmed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, the returnees arrived at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on a Max Air Charted flight at 4.29am.

He added that the returnees included 79 men, 460 women and three babies.

He added that the returnees are screened by health officials, introduced by various relevant agencies and approved by the Nigerian Immigration Service, before being given tokens by NEMA to help them transport them to their destination.

Previously, NEMA Director-General Mustafa Ahmed officially received the returnees on behalf of the federal government, admonishing them to learn lessons and be law-abiding citizens.

Mr Ahmed, represented by Sani Jiba, director of finance and accounts at the agency, added that the federal government had approved the evacuation and the supply of tokens to support their return to their respective homes.

Nigerian Consul General in Dubai, Atinuke Mohammed, who accompanied the returnees back home, thanked the federal government for its extraordinary intervention in the safe evacuation of citizens.

Returnees were received by NEMA officials, airport officials, security agencies, National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), NAPTIP, NIDCOM, NDLEA, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Customs Service, NCDC, Port Health Service, etc.
