According to Turkish news agency Demiroren, a freight train in northwestern Turkey collided with a minibus on Saturday, killing 6 people and injuring 7 others.

According to news agencies, the accident at a railroad crossing in Elgin, Tekirdag province involved a minibus carrying textile factory workers from the night shift and a train at 8 am local time (0500 GMT) Drive to nearby Cherkezkoy.

The victims were all on the minibus, which was dragged to the train after the impact. The image shows the crumpled vehicle lying on the roof next to the train tracks.

Street camera footage broadcast by the TV news channel showed that the minibus driver bypassed lowered obstacles and crossed the rails before the train hit the vehicle.

In 2018, a passenger train near Corlu derailed, killing 25 people. The accident was blamed on the collapse of the embankment caused by heavy rain.

Last year, the Turkish Association of Mechanical Engineers stated that the country’s railway accidents were three times the global average, and the union warned that cost cuts had caused safety problems.
