BIG – The Musical / 8-17 July (Derry Opera House)
The classic 1987 movie fantasy pops into an unforgettable theater experience. Featuring a witty, moving, insightful book and a dazzling, vibrant, viscerally modern soundtrack. Josh Baskin is tired of being a clumsy kid. At the carnival, he made a wish to the Zoltar machine to “get bigger”. To his shock, his wish came true. After an understandably awkward start, Josh is forced to do “adult” things like get a job and a girlfriend. In the end, he discovered that being an adult was a lot more than he expected and learned that we all have to grow at our own pace, in our own time.
NUNSENSE / August 12-21 (Studio Theatre)
The nuns began when the little sisters in Hoboken discovered that their cook, the Son of God, Sister Julia, accidentally poisoned 52 sisters, desperate to raise money for the funeral. The sisters decided the best way to raise money was to be on a variety show, so they took over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth-grade production of Grease. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet, audience quizzes and comic surprises, the show has become an international phenomenon. The author has updated with new jokes, additional lyrics, two new arrangements and a brand new song.
