7 of the 20 busiest international air travel routes from India to Dubai in May

[ad_1]

Seven of the 20 busiest international air travel routes from India in May were to Dubai, according to data provided by aviation analytics firm Cirium.

In May 2019 – before the COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the global aviation industry – only two of the top 20 international air travel routes from India went to Dubai, according to data accessed by PTI.

“International air travel is guided by bilateral rights. In the case of Dubai, (number) Emirates flights (number) have recovered (back to pre-pandemic levels), but not elsewhere. This puts Dubai on the list Alone is faster than everyone else,” said Ameya Joshi, aviation analyst and founder of aviation blog Network Thoughts.

He noted that Emirates was one of the first airlines to deploy full capacity on routes to India, bringing significant traffic to the European Union, Russia and North America.

From the beginning of 2020 to the beginning of the year, COVID-19 has significantly reduced international travel. Its effects are now fading, and airlines around the world have largely resumed their international flights.

The data mentioned that in May 2019, the busiest international air travel route in India was Kolkata-Dhaka with 301 flights. However, India’s busiest international route in May 2022 was Mumbai-Dubai with 406 flights.

Not only that, but the second busiest international route in May 2022 was Delhi-Dubai with 332 flights.

The data shows that there will be 167, 152, 136, 133 and 131 flights on the Cochin-Dubai, Hyderabad-Dubai, Chennai-Dubai, Bangalore-Dubai and Calicut-Dubai routes respectively in May 2022. It mentioned that the seven routes to United Arab Emirates (UAE) cities are among the top 20 international air travel routes connecting India in May 2022.

In contrast, there were only two Dubai routes in the top 20 in May 2019 – Mumbai-Dubai (252 flights) and Delhi-Dubai (218 flights).

Meanwhile, while there were four India-Kuala Lumpur routes in the top 20 in May 2019, there are none in May 2022, according to Cirium.

“The India-Kuala Lumpur route is dominated by AirAsia, Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines. Those three haven’t gone all out, so that’s having an impact,” Joshi explained.

The reason the airlines are not returning in full force is that they are only carrying traffic in the region to Kuala Lumpur and beyond, not as far away from Dubai as Emirates, he said, adding that the region is not yet fully open to tourism.

The data showed that the third busiest international air travel route from India in May this year was Chennai-Colombo with 183 flights. The fourth busiest route is Cochin-Dubai with 167 flights.
