75 pieces of huge Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed corridor completed

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that construction of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement is 75% complete, one of the largest projects undertaken by the RTA.

The project extends for 8 kilometers along Ras Al Khor Road, from the intersection of Dubai-Al Ain Road to the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Works include construction of a bridge extending 2km, widening Ras Al Khor Road from three to four lanes in each direction, and two-lane service roads on both sides.

“The project aims to increase the capacity of Ras Al Khor Road to 10,000 vehicles per hour, reduce travel time from 20 minutes to about seven minutes, enhance traffic safety and flow, and eliminate existing overlapping traffic points.

Serving 650,000 residents

“This project serves a series of major developments housing 650,000 residents, namely The Lagoons, Dubai Creek, Meydan Horizon, Ras Al Khor, Al Wasl and Nad Al Hamar Complex,” said Mattar Al, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Tayer said executive director, RTA.

The project also includes improving the intersection of Nad Al Hamar Road and Ras Al Khor Road, increasing its capacity to every 30,000 cars per hour on the road in the direction of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.

It also involves the construction of another two-lane bridge extending 115 meters to serve traffic from Nad Al Hamar to Ras Al Khor Road in the direction of Dubai-Al Ain Road. Al Tayer added that the works also included the construction of a two-lane tunnel extending 368 meters to enable a right-hand turn from Ras Al Khor Road to Nad Al Hamar, improving the existing intersection and widening the existing turn.

The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project is one of the largest projects undertaken by the RTA. In the future, it will include the construction of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing; a bridge across Dubai Creek will connect Bur Dubai’s Al Jaddaf with the stretch of street between the Dubai Creek project and Dubai Festival City, he said.

The project is divided into several phases. Last year, the RTA completed construction of a 3-lane bridge extending 740 meters to Dubai Creek’s western entrance – Dubai Creek Harbour. The bridge connects incoming traffic from Dubai Creek to Dubai Creek Port eastbound from Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road, with a capacity of 7,500 inbound vehicles per hour.

The RTA has also constructed a new 1.5km road with four lanes in each direction, as well as entry and exit points to and from newly constructed areas and buildings to facilitate traffic entering from the Nad Al Hamar-Ras Al Khor Road intersection.

Simplify traffic flow

A new network of roads and bridges will help streamline traffic flow by connecting newly constructed residential units in Dubai Creek to surrounding roads. The new road is also equipped with a lighting network of 108 light poles.

Al Tayer explained that a 640-meter-long bridge is currently under construction to ensure smooth traffic from the Dubai Creek Harbour project to Ras Al Khor Road, which can pass about 3,100 vehicles per hour. arab trade news agency
