Amna Mohammed Al Mansouri, an Emirati student from Abu Dhabi, was declared the UAE Arabic Reading Champion at an awards ceremony in Dubai on Friday.

Another Emirati student, Ghareeb Mohammed Al-Yamahi, took first place in the new ‘Men of Determination’ category.

The ceremony was attended by Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technologies.

The Arabic Reading Challenge is the largest ever Arabic literacy initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Designed to develop a love of reading in students, this challenge challenges them to delve into more than 50 books in one school year. This extraordinary Arabic reading competition involves students in grades 1-12 from schools all over the Arab world.

The seventh reading activity is the largest reading activity of its kind in the world, with approximately 24.8 million students from 46 countries participating, a record high. The seventh edition also creates new categories for people of determination.
