Police told Blick that he lived near the church. He was taken to hospital for a psychological evaluation and charged with a hate crime.

Meanwhile, churchgoers expressed shock and pain at the incident.
“I was walking down the street to the store and thought, ‘Oh, someone put a veil on the head of Our Lady of Mary, well, when I got closer and actually saw it, I started crying. I was crying. ‘ Oh my God.’ It said fake stuff,” said Evelyn Sullivan, 71.
It’s worth noting that the statue has also been vandalized in the past and replaced after a fundraiser.
“When is enough!” The report echoes what we’ve known for a long time. Crimes against our churches and other places of worship have been on the rise,” said James Russell, president of Catholic Action New York State.
