The Ministry of Health of India stated that India reported 179 COVID deaths and 18,795 new infections on Tuesday, the lowest level since March.

The 179 COVID deaths reported on Tuesday were the lowest daily number since mid-March, bringing the total to 447,373.
According to Ministry of Health data, the number of infections increased by 18,795, the smallest single-day figure since the beginning of March, bringing the total to approximately 33.7 million.
“India has reported less than 20,000 new cases per day after 201 days. Active cases accounted for less than 1% of the total number of cases, and it is currently 0.87%, the lowest level since March 2020,” the Ministry of Health statement said.
Starting from a staggering peak of over 400,000 cases and 4,500 deaths per day, India’s pandemic situation has gradually improved over the past few months, despite the slow pace of vaccination for the country’s approximately 1.4 billion people.
Except for the southern state of Kerala, the numbers in most areas of India are steadily declining. The state has developed from a successful case of COVID-19 to one of the most severely affected areas in the country.
According to the “India Express” report, more than 20 states and federal territories report less than 100 new cases per day, while 10 states and federal territories report less than 10 new cases per day.
The latest data show that India has received more than 870.7 million doses of the vaccine, but the Minister of Health of the country recently stated that only about 23% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated, while about 66% of adults have received at least one dose.
At the same time, India’s drug regulatory agency has allowed vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII) to recruit children aged 7-11 in its COVID-19 vaccine trial.
A subject expert panel of the Central Drug Standards Control Organization said: “After detailed review, the committee recommends that subjects in the 7 to 11 age group are allowed to be recruited in accordance with the agreement.”
SII has already tested its COVID-19 vaccine in the age group of 12-17 years, which is a domestic version of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, and has provided safety data for the first 100 participants.
So far, only drugmaker Zydus Cadila’s DNA COVID-19 vaccine has received emergency use approval in India and can be used for people 12 years and older.
