Explanation: Why is it called “Expo 2020” when it is held in 2021? – information

[ad_1]

Last year marked the first time the Expo was postponed rather than cancelled

A peek into the venue of the Expo 2020 shows that once the large-scale expo starts for six months on October 1, the world will usher in a multi-sensory feast.

However, have you ever wondered why this event is called Expo 2020 even though it takes place in 2021?

The event caused such a sensation that it is hard to believe that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the first World Expo in the region had to be postponed by one year from the original date.

In May 2020, the General Assembly of the Bureau for International Exhibitions (BIE), an intergovernmental organization responsible for overseeing and managing the World Expo, approved the requirements of the UAE government Postpone the event for one year.

The participating countries expressed the need to postpone the Expo to overcome the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. This marks the first time the Expo has been postponed rather than cancelled.

However, even though the event was held in 2021, it still retains the name “Dubai Expo 2020”.

Although postponed, this is not the first time that the past year has been preserved in the name of the past. Although the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be held in 2021, it still retains its name. Similarly, in 2020 the European Union retained “2020” in its name to “pay homage to the original vision of the tournament”.

This is mainly due to brand and marketing reasons.

New coronavirus effect

As we know, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the world. Borders are closed, flights are grounded; schools and offices are closed. Global events including the 2020 World Expo had to be postponed.

However, the world is still strong, and most global events have been postponed to help countries recover.

Following BIE’s approval of the change of the dates for Expo 2020, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Senior Committee for Expo 2020 Dubai, thanked the BIE member states for “continuing their commitment to contribute to Expo Dubai This will play a key role in “playing a role in shaping our post-pandemic world when it is needed most.”

Dimitri S Kerkentzes, Secretary-General of BIE, praised the support of member states as a “sign of reunification”. He said that this shows “a common will to work together to create the future.”

“In order to support the postponement of the 2020 Dubai Expo for one year, the BIE member states are providing the world with the opportunity to reconvene the meeting in 2021, when we can meet the challenges facing mankind together and celebrate the strengthening of our unity and solidarity. 2020 With the theme of’Connecting Thoughts, Creating the Future’, Expo Dubai 2010 will provide the world with a unique platform to share experiences, lessons, solutions and ideas to create a better tomorrow,” he added.
