25-year-old hospitalized in an explosion in a building in Gothenburg, Sweden-News

The direct cause of the explosion and fire is unclear.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, an explosion and fire broke out in a residential area in the center of Gothenburg, Sweden, and four people were seriously injured.

The direct cause of the explosion and fire is unclear.

After firefighters pulled people out of a residential area with billowing smoke, at least 16 people were taken to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the Sahlgrenska University Hospital said that three women and a man were being treated for serious injuries.

Swedish public service radio SR reported that about 25 people were taken to a hospital near Sweden’s second largest city.

The police said that they had launched an investigation but could not provide more details.

The emergency services said they are working to evacuate people and put out the fire in the building. They ruled out the possibility of a gas leak, but did not guess the cause of the explosion.

Anja Almen, who lives in the building, said she heard a commotion in the street just after 5:00 in the morning—about 15 minutes after the explosion.

“I walked to the balcony and I was shocked. There was smoke everywhere, from every stairwell,” she said by phone from a nearby church, where she and other tenants were evacuated. “A fire truck with a ladder pulls people out of the apartment.”

A spokesperson for the emergency services said that hundreds of people have been evacuated from the vicinity of the explosion and fire.

In recent years, the Nordic country has been fighting the rising gang crime, with hostile groups using explosives and firearms to solve the problem.
