Dubai’s fourth household health survey begins on September 10th

On Thursday, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) revealed its partnership with Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment, a subsidiary of Digital Dubai, for the fourth Dubai Household Health Survey (DHHS).

This extensive survey will involve 2,500 families, encompassing both nationals and expatriates. Its primary objective is to gather evidence-based data to inform future interventions, plans, and policies aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of the Dubai community.

Surveyors and healthcare professionals will visit households to collect in-depth data on topics such as healthcare expenses, utilization of healthcare services, and individuals’ health conditions. Additionally, they will provide complimentary basic health screenings.

The fieldwork for the DHHS survey is scheduled to commence on September 10. Initiated in 2009 and conducted every five years, this survey stands as Dubai’s most extensive household health study. Prior surveys took place in 2014 and 2019.

In this year’s iteration, the survey will focus on four primary themes:

This year’s survey will encompass four primary themes:

  1. Healthy Lifestyles (including tobacco use, physical activity, and dietary habits).
  2. Health Expenditure (covering spending on outpatient clinics and hospitals).
  3. Quality of Health Services (measuring satisfaction with health services and periodic examinations).

Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, emphasized that Dubai’s remarkable achievements and advancements in the health sector reflect the government’s strong commitment to this vital area. The health sector plays a crucial role in sustainable development and contributes significantly to continuous progress. Dubai’s accomplishments in healthcare have positioned it among the world’s most advanced cities.

Al Ketbi highlighted that the authority’s plans and development strategy are rooted in scientific and professional methodologies, guided by a clear vision to address both current and future healthcare needs in Dubai. The comprehensive survey’s objective is to gather evidence-based data to shape interventions, policies, and processes aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of Dubai’s residents. Al Ketbi expressed appreciation for the community’s active participation and cooperation with field teams, emphasizing their vital role in the survey’s success.

Younus Al Nasser, CEO of Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment at Digital Dubai, emphasized Dubai’s commitment to digitalization and the use of advanced technologies to enhance people’s lives and provide integrated experiences that promote well-being and happiness. He stated that Digital Dubai collaborates with various government entities to provide accurate data, supporting strategic plans to elevate the healthcare sector and build a reliable database to drive proactive measures and international benchmarks.

Afaf BuOsaiba, Executive Director of the Data and Statistics Operations Sector at the Dubai Data & Statistics Establishment, stressed the importance of data in providing a comprehensive view of various sectors, especially healthcare, and its role in enabling decision-makers to address challenges. Digital Dubai works to enhance all aspects of life in Dubai, promote smart living, and ensure people’s well-being and happiness.

Khaled Al Jallaf, Director of the Research, Studies, and Data Analysis Department at the DHA and the team leader of the Dubai Household Health Survey, explained the survey’s scientific importance as a tool recommended by global health organizations. It gathers accurate and verified data on the health of individuals, families, and society as a whole, achieved through direct field visits to a selected sample of families and individuals, ensuring a representative distribution of Dubai’s population.
