In UAE, Abu Dhabi school is top-three for environmental prize

An Abu Dhabi school, Mamoura British Academy, has emerged as one of the top three finalists for the prestigious World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action. This recognition comes as the UAE prepares to host the UN Climate Change Conference COP28.

Mamoura British Academy has earned this distinction by empowering its students and fostering sustainable initiatives that benefit communities. The World’s Best School Prizes, with a total value of Dh918,262.50 ($250,000), were established in 2022 by T4 Education in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, Yayasan Hasanah, and the Lemann Foundation, making them among the world’s most esteemed education awards.

These prizes encompass five categories, honoring schools for their exceptional contributions to community collaboration, environmental action, innovation, resilience, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. These awards recognize schools worldwide for their crucial role in shaping the next generation and their significant impact on societal progress, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic.

Jill Huntley, Managing Director of Global Corporate Citizenship at Accenture, commended Mamoura British Academy for being named a Top 3 finalist for the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action 2023.

She highlighted the school’s remarkable efforts in safeguarding the planet’s future and expressed hope that educators worldwide would be inspired by its example. She also emphasized Accenture’s pride in participating in T4 Education’s initiative to empower the next generation in addressing global sustainability challenges with innovative practices and new technologies.

The winners of these five prizes will be selected by an expert judging panel based on rigorous criteria.

Vikas Pota, Founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes, extended his congratulations to Mamoura British Academy and the UAE for reaching the final three in the World’s Best School Prize for Environmental Action 2023 category, especially as the nation prepares to host COP28. He praised the school and its fellow finalists for their leadership, vision, and educational environment, highlighting their inspiration and contribution to a better future. He called on governments worldwide to heed their voices and learn from their expertise.

This year, T4 Education has introduced a new Community Choice Award, open to the 15 schools comprising the top three finalists in each of the five World’s Best School Prizes categories. This award will be presented to the school that garners the most support in a Public Vote, which commences today.

The recipient of the Community Choice Award will receive access to T4 Education’s recently established Best School to Work program, which offers an independent, evidence-based accreditation system for schools, focusing on organizational culture improvement and the attraction and retention of exceptional educators.
