The BBC is currently investigating the allegations made against former employee and comedian/actor Russell Brand, who has denied the accusations of sexual assault. Brand, 48, who previously worked on BBC radio programs from 2006 to 2008, issued a denial in response to unspecified “very serious criminal allegations” before sexual assault claims, including rape, were published by the Sunday Times and later aired on Channel 4.
The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2006 and 2013, with one woman alleging rape and another stating Brand assaulted her when she was 16 and still in school. Two accusers claimed the incidents took place in Los Angeles.
A BBC spokesperson stated, “The documentary and associated reports contained serious allegations, spanning a number of years. Russell Brand worked on BBC radio programs between 2006 and 2008, and we are urgently looking into the issues raised.”
Banijay UK, the production company responsible for a television show hosted by Brand in 2004 and 2005, has also initiated an “urgent internal investigation” in response to the serious allegations.
Trevi, a women’s charity dedicated to assisting those affected by violence and abuse, has formally severed its affiliation with Russell Brand. Additionally, Tavistock Wood, a talent agency, has publicly announced the termination of all professional connections with Brand.
In their statement, Tavistock Wood stated, “Russell Brand categorically and vehemently denied the allegation made in 2020, but we now believe we were horribly misled by him.”
The London Metropolitan Police disclosed that they have not received any reports concerning these allegations and issued a statement urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault, regardless of when it occurred, to contact the police.
