Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii “Full Eruption”: USGS | Volcano News

[ad_1]

The eruption of Kilauea volcano in 2018 caused extensive damage, but officials said that the recent eruption does not pose a direct threat to homes.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano had a “full eruption,” and local media reported that the eruption would not pose a direct danger to residents.

Webcam footage from the Halmaumau crater on the top of the volcano showed that a fountain of lava covered the bottom of the crater, and a billowing cloud of volcanic gas rose into the sky on Wednesday.

Kilauea Volcano is located on the Big Island of Hawaii and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It has a Big explosion In 2018, this destroyed more than 700 houses and displaced thousands of residents. Before that eruption, the volcano had erupted slowly for decades, but most of it did not erupt in densely populated residential areas.

Officials said that the recent eruption does not pose a threat to houses and is completely contained in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

“The once cooled lava lake is now erupting with new fissures,” the U.S. Geological Survey Volcano said in a tweet.

At the same time, the Geological Survey’s Hawaii Volcano Observatory (HVO) raised the alert level of Kilauea Volcano from “observation” to “warning.”

Ken Hon, the scientist in charge of the observatory, told the Associated Press: “All signs indicate that it will stay in the crater.”

“We have not seen any signs that lava is entering the lower part of the eastern rift zone where people live. Currently, all activities are carried out in the park,” he said.

The same area of the volcano that erupted on Wednesday also erupted in December and lasted until May.

Hon said that as the volcano fills up, these types of eruptions may continue for several years.

“We do know that one thing that happened was that magma entered Kilauea at a fairly constant rate, so it either filled the inside of the volcano and repressurized it, or it surfaced,” he said.

When the Hawaiian volcano erupted, the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma had been erupting for 11 days.

On Wednesday, the European Union’s Copernicus Service estimated that lava had destroyed 656 houses because it spread over 267 hectares (660 acres).
