Dubai is the region’s tourism, trade, and commercial center. It hopes to promote economic development by attracting 25 million businesses and tourists to the World Expo, which was built from the ground up on a 4.3 square kilometer (1.7 square miles) desert.

Many countries and companies are also looking forward to the Expo-the first major global event open to tourists since the coronavirus pandemic-to promote trade and investment.

After being postponed by the pandemic for a year, the entire Expo site will be opened to exhibitors from nearly 200 countries on Friday. Eight years ago, he chose to host the 2015 World Expo in Milan, Italy. The event cost approximately US$6.8 billion.

Dubai stated that it hopes that the Expo will be a cultural, technological and architectural exhibition under the banner of “connecting ideas and creating the future” that can demonstrate originality and become a place to address global challenges such as climate change, conflict and economic growth.

The event may contend with the global reluctance to travel, and many events will be broadcast live online. However, the Expo officials are still expected to attract more visitors than Milan and more than twice the UAE’s population.

“We are very confident… By being responsible for how we manage the COVIV situation and how we propose exciting plans for tourists, we hope to be able to solve problems by opening up but staying the same, keeping time conservative and putting public safety first, “Reem Al Hashimy, Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, told Reuters.

The Gulf countries have relaxed most coronavirus restrictions, but the Expo will require masks and require visitors over 18 to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or test negative.

Before the pandemic, the consulting firm Ernst & Young predicted that the Expo will contribute 1.5% of the UAE’s GDP within six months.
