The Dubai Expo 2020 team extended their touching tribute to the staff who helped organize this event. A memorial dedicated to workers was unveiled in the Expo site to celebrate more than 200,000 workers from all over the world.

The worker monument was designed by the famous London architect Asif Khan, and each worker’s name is carved on the stone structure. Inspired by the deformation of the moon in a solar eclipse, the cylinder also refers to traditional cartographic science and the fine engineering in the Islamic world astrolabe.

The colonnade consists of columns cut from a single monolithic block and is located on the main walkway of the Expo Jubilee Park. It reflects a spirit of cooperation deeply rooted in the UAE and solidifies the vision and spirit of Expo 2020.

Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the UAE and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, unveiled the monument.

“We would like to pay tribute to the outstanding work of more than 200,000 workers and their contribution to Expo 2020 Dubai. Everyone deserves to be known for their tremendous efforts, and we sincerely thank and praise them.

“Their dedication to their work is an integral part of the creation of this historic event, which is the most inclusive Expo ever. Thanks to your efforts, the earth can come together when international cooperation is most needed and work together. We and our children and grandchildren create a better future.”

240 million working hours

Since the ground broke for the first time on the Expo site in 2015, more than 200,000 laborers from around the world have completed more than 240 million working hours. They helped turn what was once a vast desert into the eye-catching world-class site today.
