The UAE’s Public Prosecution has used social media to emphasize the legal consequences individuals may face for assaulting someone. The authority outlined two scenarios of assault along with their respective penalties.
Serious Assault:
- Offenders who cause harm to another person’s physical well-being, resulting in illness or the inability to work for more than twenty days, may face fines and imprisonment.
Less Serious Assault: Penalties
- Perpetrators involved in less severe assaults could receive fines up to Dh10,000 and a jail sentence of up to one year.
The authority clarified that if an assault leads to the miscarriage of a pregnant woman, it will be considered an aggravated circumstance. These penalties align with Article 390 of Federal Decree-Law No. 31 of 2021, which governs the Penal Code.
