Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi (EAD), underscored the longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship. Carbon Reduction Goals by 2027: Heat Alert
Aligned with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, Abu Dhabi aims to achieve a significant 22% reduction in carbon emissions by 2027. This ambitious goal is equivalent to the sequestration achieved by planting 500 million trees over a decade.
Human Health and Environmental Impact Mitigation
Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), shared plans for a heat alert set to launch in 2024. This initiative aims to develop procedures and action plans to effectively mitigate the impact of environmental factors on human health.
Enhancing Climate Resilience Across Sectors
Critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, environment, and health will undergo enhancements to ensure climate resilience and agility. The Department of Energy, chaired by Awaidha Murshed Ali Al Marar, focuses on crafting policies that prioritize continuous security and supply of vital resources like water and electricity.
Scientific Approaches to Agriculture in Harsh Conditions
Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of Abu Dhabi Agriculture & Food Safety Authority, discussed scientific approaches in agriculture. Initiatives like the agricultural genomics program aim to breed resilient plants and animals, optimize water usage through precision agriculture, and reduce post-harvest waste.
