The expected weather effects are heavy rain and high-speed winds that raise dust and cause poor visibility.
The UAE authorities are taking all possible precautions to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Shaheen.
From Sunday, October 3 to Tuesday, October 5, the cyclone will affect the weather conditions in Abu Dhabi, especially Al Ain.
The expected weather effects are heavy rain, raising dust and causing high-speed winds with low visibility, rough seas and flash floods.
The authorities have ensured the safety of the construction site in Al Ain, and all work ceased from 4pm today to October 5th.
The Ministry of Human Resources and the Emirates had earlier urged businesses and companies affected by the tropical storm to stop working when needed. (Https://www.khaleejtimes.com/news/weather/cyclone-shaheen-stop-work-if-needed-uae-ministry-tells-firms)
The Ministry recommended that these companies “take necessary precautions to protect employees from possible hazards or injuries in the workplace.”
At the same time, in Al Ain, all educational institutions will start distance learning on Monday, October 4 and Tuesday, October 5.
As a precautionary measure, schools in some areas started to go online earlier. (Https://www.khaleejtimes.com/news/education/cyclone-shaheen-uae-schools-in-several-areas-shift-to-distance-learning)
These areas include Hatta in Dubai; Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn in Sharjah; Masfurt and Manama in Ajman; and the southern region of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office advises residents to drive with extreme caution and reduce speed when visibility is low.
“Avoid marine activities, stay away from valleys and heavy rain areas, follow the latest weather forecasts and instructions from the authorities, and only obtain information from official channels,” it wrote on Twitter. “For emergencies, please dial 02 678 8888 or 993 Emergency Office.”
