The injection can be given six months after the second dose.
The UAE authorities have approved the emergency use of Pfizer’s BioNTech and Sputnik booster injections for some residents. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) also announced on Tuesday that it has begun to provide Pfizer booster injections to certain categories of residents.
When announcing the eligibility criteria, health officials stated that the booster injection will be given six months after the second injection.
Those who took Pfizer or Sputnik after being vaccinated by the Sinopharm Group are not eligible for booster injections.
According to the authorities, the following categories are eligible:
>> Seniors and foreigners 60 years and older.
>> Patients with chronic diseases in the 50-59 age group.
>> Those who are committed to long-term care in medical institutions.
Dr. Noura Al Ghaiti, spokesperson for the UAE Health Department, said the decision was based on “research and recommendations.”
She added: “After the effectiveness of the vaccine against Covid-19 infection decreases over time, this enhancer should help boost immunity.”
