UAE Nationals Take On More Private Sector Roles
Emiratis private sector jobs have crossed a new milestone this year. The number of Emiratis working in the private sector in the UAE has exceeded 190,000 across nearly 32,000 establishments in the first half of 2026, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The steady rise reflects ongoing efforts to bring more UAE nationals into private companies, a key goal under the country’s Emiratisation programme. Officials say the numbers show growing confidence among citizens in pursuing careers outside government roles, which were traditionally seen as the more stable option.
Sectors like banking, insurance, technology and retail have reported some of the strongest gains in Emirati hiring this year. Companies that meet nationalisation targets continue to benefit from incentives, while those that fall short face penalties under existing labour rules.
The government has repeatedly said its goal is to build a private sector workforce that genuinely reflects the country’s population, giving young Emiratis better access to skilled jobs, career growth and long-term financial stability outside the public sector.
