UAE: If you find a snake on the beach, please do not touch or try to catch it-News

“The sea snake, known as the’Bokin’, is usually very calm and will not harm people unless it is provoked.”

Authorities in the two emirates have urged beach visitors to watch out for sea snakes. They should not approach the creatures they might find.

At this time of year, with the arrival of winter and the drop in temperature, it is common for sea snakes to look for beaches.

On Thursday, the Abu Dhabi government media office issued a new reminder.

“Sea snakes, known as’bukin’, are usually calm and will not harm people unless they are provoked. They swim to shallow waters for food and reproduction. You can see them swimming in open water or near the beach, especially It’s on Saadiyat Island and Abu Dhabi Corniche,” it wrote on Twitter.

If you find a snake, you should not touch it or try to catch it. You can call 800 555 to report the sighting to the Abu Dhabi Government Call Center.

The media office added: “Anyone bitten by a sea snake must go to the hospital immediately.”

Earlier, Beach visitors in Sharjah are told not to panic If they find sea snakes.

The Emirate’s Environmental and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) stated that these snakes are “peaceful and shy creatures” that will not cause harm unless approached and threatened.
