Abu Dhabi Police have issued a fresh Abu Dhabi road safety warning, urging motorists not to stop their vehicles in the middle of the road unless it is absolutely necessary.
The warning comes after police shared footage showing crashes linked to vehicles stopping in active traffic lanes. Police said stopping suddenly can surprise other drivers and increase the risk of serious accidents.
Drivers who face a vehicle breakdown or a sudden problem should move to a safe location as soon as possible. Abu Dhabi Police have advised motorists to use designated emergency areas and the nearest safe exit.
If stopping on the road is unavoidable, drivers should switch on their hazard warning lights and take steps to alert other motorists.
The Abu Dhabi road safety warning also applies to drivers involved in minor accidents. Police have previously advised motorists to move damaged vehicles away from active lanes where it is safe to do so, helping prevent additional crashes and traffic congestion.
