UAE Expands 2026–27 Flu Campaign to Include RSV and Pneumonia
The UAE has expanded its annual flu campaign to include wider awareness of seasonal respiratory diseases, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and pneumonia.
The 2026–27 flu campaign was officially launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) on September 15, 2026, during a press conference in Dubai. The campaign will continue until March 2027 under the theme “Protect Yourself… Protect Your Community.”
This year’s campaign goes beyond seasonal influenza. Health authorities are also focusing on respiratory illnesses that can become more common during the cooler months.
Officials said respiratory disease activity in the UAE has remained similar to the previous two seasons, so the wider campaign is part of a preventive approach rather than a response to a sudden rise in cases.
RSV is one of the main illnesses highlighted this year. It often causes mild, cold-like symptoms but can lead to more serious respiratory problems, including pneumonia and bronchiolitis. Older adults and young children can face a higher risk of complications.
Health authorities are particularly encouraging pregnant women and older adults to consider recommended RSV protection. Maternal RSV vaccination can help provide protection to newborns through antibodies passed during pregnancy. RSV vaccination is also recommended for eligible older adults.
The flu vaccination programme also includes several priority groups. These include older adults, children, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions, people with weakened immunity and healthcare workers. School students and people travelling for Hajj and Umrah have also been added to the priority list this season.
MoHAP said influenza vaccination is recommended from six months of age, in line with approved health guidance. Officials also advised residents to wash their hands regularly, cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, stay home when unwell and maintain good ventilation.
The campaign will run across healthcare facilities, schools, digital platforms and community locations throughout the UAE.
