[ad_1]

The Dubai Municipality will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day on October 9.

Participating in this international event strengthens the municipality’s leadership role in raising the environmental awareness of the emirate’s community and protecting the emirate’s biodiversity and ecosystem.

The Department of Environment of the Dubai Municipality will organize various publicity programs for all sectors of society to educate them about the importance of migratory birds and their species, the threats they face, and how the community can contribute to their mitigation.

The theme of this year’s global event is “Sing, fly, and soar like a bird”, focusing on the sounds and flying phenomena of birds, in order to inspire and connect people of all ages, celebrate migrating birds and join forces to protect them. And its habitat.

World Migratory Bird Day has a global impact. It is an effective tool for sharing best practices and helps protect migratory birds from the threats they face during their search for food, temperate climates, or escape from predators.

The Ministry of Environment will organize various environmental activities at Creek Park-Gate 1 on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 16:00 to 18:00. This is an opportunity for the whole family to participate in environmental seminars to be held by various private companies.

The seminar includes environmental information related to migratory birds and how to protect them. One of the most famous educational seminars provided by the Ministry of Environment is the making of bird nests, which participants can put in their homes to attract birds, especially migratory birds.

One of the public’s most eye-catching projects is the plan to track migratory birds via satellite. A tracking device will be installed with satellite positioning equipment to track the movement of the bird without having to recapture it and study its migration path.

This contributes to plans for the protection and proper management of these birds. In addition, everyone can participate in various environmental competitions.

There will be an environmental yoga workshop where participants will enjoy the singing of birds while exercising. Art lovers can show their creativity by coloring the 15-meter-long migratory bird environmental painting, and watch the environmental art exhibition that 15 artists of different nationalities will participate in.

Overall, the Emirate of Dubai and the UAE are the main habitats for many migratory birds. Shallow coastal waters, inland waterways, mangroves and salt marshes are essential elements for birds to escape the frozen polar regions of Asia and Siberia while seeking warmer climates in Africa.

Due to its geographical location and climate, the UAE receives a large number of migratory birds every year. Two important bird migration paths overlap with the UAE, the bird migration path from East Africa to West Asia and the Central Asia path, while birds from Northern Europe and Asia visit the UAE with breeding areas as their destinations.

The protected areas distributed in various regions of the emirate of Dubai constitute an important habitat for hundreds of migratory birds each year, such as Socotra cormorants, black gulls, white-cheeked terns, crested cats, black grouses and yellow-necked sparrows. There are wading birds and birds of prey, such as ospreys and peregrine falcons and small birds, as well as types of storks found in coastal areas and marshes, such as beaks, herons, and flamingos, as well as different types of ducks.

There are eight nature reserves in the Emirate of Dubai as a sanctuary for the protection of wildlife in the Emirate. The Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of approximately 1,297,82 square kilometers. Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is also one of the key areas to provide safe places for migratory birds due to its unique biodiversity It is of international ecological importance.
