U.S. Capitol Police becomes the first person to be charged

The prosecutor claimed that on the day after the rebellion, Michael sent a selfie of the Capitol during the riot to the person who posted the selfie and video via Facebook. According to reports, Michael joined this person in a Facebook group related to phishing. The message read: “I am a Congressman and agree with your political position. Delete the part of the building they are currently investigating, and everyone in the building will be charged. Just watch it!”

In addition, Michael allegedly continued to send messages to this person, saying that he was happy that they walked out of the building unscathed and that more than 50 police officers were injured, some of which were very serious. He hasn’t finished there yet. As dozens of people were arrested, Michael told the person to “leave social media” in mid-January. He even broke down potential felony charges of violence or destruction of property. He went one step further, allegedly suggesting that the person contact the “Congress Police” and is expected to be charged with trespassing.

The 50-year-old is currently on administrative leave and was arrested today and appeared in court through a video of the cell. Michael has not presented any plea arguments, nor has he been detained awaiting trial. However, while awaiting trial, he will be prohibited from possessing any guns.

He is scheduled to stand trial on Tuesday.
