Cricket: What you need to know about the 2021 T20 World Cup | Cricket News

[ad_1]

Past winners, tournament format, DRS and Super Over updates. Your guide to the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The rescheduled 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, October 17.

The West Indies are the defending champions, lifting the trophy for the second time in 2016.

Here is what you need to know about the tournament:

Why is the event rescheduled?

This tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Australia in 2020.

However, due to the COVID pandemic, it was decided that India will host the event in 2021 and Australia will host the 2022 edition.

Earlier this year, the Indian Cricket Committee decided to move the game to the Middle East to “watch closely the COVID-19 situation”.

How many teams participate?

A total of 16 teams participated in this competition.

What is the format of the competition?

There will be 8 teams in the first round, divided into two groups, aiming to qualify for the main round.

The top two of each group will enter the next round of Super 12 and join the world’s top eight T20 teams. They will be divided into two groups.

After the group stage, the top two of the two groups will advance to the semi-finals.

When are the semifinals and finals?

The semi-finals will be held on November 10 (Abu Dhabi) and November 11 (Dubai), and the final will be held in Dubai on November 14.

Who is the previous winner?

The West Indies are the defending champions, beating England in the 2016 final. The West Indies are also the only team to win the championship twice-they defeated Sri Lanka in the 2012 final.

In 2007, India defeated Pakistan in the final and won the first tournament. Pakistan achieved better results in the 2009 competition.

Sri Lanka and England are the other winners of the T20 World Cup.

Will India and Pakistan clash again?

certainly. The two Asian rivals will meet in Dubai on October 24.

India led Pakistan 6-1 in the Twenty20 international competition and never lost to Pakistan in the ICC Championship.

Can fans enter the stadium?

Yes, but the capacity is reduced.

In Oman, the stadium will hold 3,000 fans, while the UAE stadiums (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah) will allow up to 70% of the capacity, and all fans will need to be vaccinated and wear masks after entering.

How much are you talking about?

a lot of. The total bonus we are talking about is $5.6 million.

The winner will receive 1.6 million U.S. dollars, the losing finalist will receive 800,000 U.S. dollars, and the losing semi-finalists will each receive 400,000 U.S. dollars.

Will we have a Decision Review System (DRS)?

Yes, DRS will make its debut at this year’s T20 World Cup. Each team allows up to two unsuccessful reviews per round.

Will we have a super end?

certainly. Cricket keeper likes Super Over (better than bowling).

If the game is tied, the two teams will score a super big score (and continue the game until the winner is decided). If weather conditions do not allow the super-end, the game will be declared a tie and the two teams will each score one point.
