The judge dismissed Jussie Smollett’s request to drop the case of alleged lying to the police in 2019

[ad_1]

Despite efforts to get his 2019 case dismissed, Jussie Smollett will still face trial for allegedly lying to the police for a crime.According to NBC News, a judge in Cook County Dismiss his motion The criminal case was dismissed. The ruling took place on Friday, which means Jussie will have to fight these allegations in court.

His lawyer Nenye Uche argued in court that the ruling violated Jussie’s rights. Apparently, the actor has reached an agreement in Cook County to drop the charges. The transaction included community services and a forfeited $10,000 security deposit.

Nevertheless, Judge James Linn does not intend to do so. The special prosecutor appointed by another judge now has the case. Therefore, Judge James made a ruling based on his refusal to “undermine the arrangement.”

What happened in 2019?

You may remember that Jussie was accused of planning racist and homophobic hate crimes in 2019. He told the police at the time that two men wearing “Make America Great Again” hats attacked him in Streeterville, a wealthy neighborhood north of Chicago. The former “Empire” actor told the police that these people yelled racist and homophobic abuse at him and tied a noose around his neck. This led the police to investigate the incident as a suspected hate crime.

After the report was reported, the police were unable to confirm the story with visual evidence. Investigators talked to brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo, and they gave different versions of the story.

Former Chicago Police Chief Eddie T. Johnson concluded that Jussy actually paid the brothers $3,500 for the cost of a fake attack performance. The actor hopes to “promote his career” based on his reaction to the attack.

Nevertheless, throughout the accusation process, Jussie has maintained her innocence. Last year, he joined Marc Lamont Hill on Instagram Live interviewHe shared that he was frustrated with his silence due to the lawsuit.

“They won’t let this go,” Jussie said. “It doesn’t matter. There is an example in the making. Sadly, there is an example showing that someone did not do what they were accused of.”

According to NBC News, although the grand jury sued him in March 2019, the case was dropped a few weeks later. Then, a special prosecutor picked him up and accused him of lying to the police and misbehaving.

This is a story of development.
