The foreign ministers of Iran, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Russia will hold talks in Tehran.

Tehran, Iran -The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Tehran will host a meeting between Afghanistan’s neighbors and Russia next week. The event on October 27 witnessed the attendance of all six foreign ministers.

At a press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Said Khatibzad announced that in addition to Iran and Russia, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which have land borders with Afghanistan, will attend. Meeting.

According to Khatibzadeh, the meeting will continue the discussions that countries had held during the virtual meeting held in early September.

Khatibzad said: “These six countries will focus on how to help form an inclusive government involving all ethnic groups in Afghanistan, and how to help shape the future of peace and security in Afghanistan.”

Since the Taliban took control of Kabul in mid-August, Iran has been debating whether the organization has changed its approach since taking power more than 20 years ago.

But Iran’s official position is that it wants its eastern neighbors to establish an inclusive government and stability, which Tehran believes is essential to its national security.

These calls continued after the Taliban formed a government that did not include ethnic and religious groups or women.

Iran also severely condemned the Taliban’s armed attacks on resistance fighters in the Panjshir Valley, as well as a series of bombings claimed by the Islamic State in Khorasan province. The ISKP (ISIS-K) armed group has shaken Afghanistan in recent weeks.

Khatibzad said that Iran maintains contacts with all parties in Afghanistan, including the Taliban.

“It is clear that the Taliban has a direct responsibility for maintaining peace and stability and maintaining the health of all Afghan groups, including Hazaras and Shiites,” he said.

Earlier this year, before armed groups took control of Afghanistan, Tehran hosted an internal Afghan meeting, including the Taliban.

However, Iran refused to participate in any talks hosted or participated in by the United States, saying it was the main cause of instability and violence in the country.
