Chinese and Russian warships sail through the South China Sea of the Japanese Strait

[ad_1]

Ten ships from China and Russia sailed through the Tsugaru Strait, which separates the Sea of Japan from the Pacific Ocean.

The Japanese government stated that 10 warships from China and Russia have sailed through the strait separating Japan’s main island and Hokkaido, and it is paying close attention to such activities.

On Tuesday, the Japanese Deputy Cabinet Secretary Shin Isozaki said at a regular press conference: “The government is paying close attention to the activities of Chinese and Russian naval vessels near Japan. This kind of activity is very interesting.”

“We will continue to do our utmost to conduct surveillance activities in the waters and airspace around Japan.”

This is the first time Japan has confirmed that Chinese and Russian naval vessels will sail together on Monday through the Tsugaru Strait that separates the Sea of Japan from the Pacific.

Although the straits are considered international waters, Japan’s relations with China have long been troubled by conflicting claims against the small islands in the East China Sea. Tokyo also has territorial disputes with Moscow.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of Japan stated that the passage of these ships did not violate Japan’s territorial waters, nor did it violate international rules.

Russia and China held a joint naval exercise in the Sea of Japan from October 14 to 17. As part of the cooperation between the two navies, warships and support ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet participated in the exercise.

In recent years, Moscow and Beijing have established closer military and diplomatic relations as their relations with the West have deteriorated.
