The New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Art Center collaborated with the New York University School of Music to present the world premiere of the original piano sonata for American composer, pianist and assistant professor of music Matthew Quayle. The Night of Contemporary Piano Music will premiere online at the Red Theater at 7:30 PM on Monday, October 25, 2021.
In this recital, Matthew Quill showed his complete original piano sonata series. These powerful works were written over 25 years, exploring a wide range of styles and emotions. After experiencing the grief of the first sonata, the protest and violence of the second sonata, and the blues of the third sonata, Quill will perform the world premiere of his meditation sonata No. 4.
Due to his diverse composition, Quill has received commissions and performances from world-renowned soloists and ensembles, including Akira Saxophone Quartet, Alarm Will Sound, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Emanuele Arciuli, Arditti String Quartet and Avalon String Quartet et al. Since 2012, Quill has been an associate professor of art at New York University Abu Dhabi, and was the head of the music project from 2017 to 2020.
The event will be on Facebook, YouTube and nyuad-artscenter.org Free ticket registration.
