New York City mandates that city workers be vaccinated against COVID-19 – refusal to do so will result in unpaid leave

As more and more cities activate the new COVID-19 Regulation, New York City requires all city workers to be vaccinated.

according to New York Times, City workers must get a dose of vaccine or get an “approved exemption” before the end of the month. If not, they will no longer be paid.

The task will be executed from November 1st. Police, firefighters and sanitation workers must abide by the new policy.

“Any city worker who has not been vaccinated before the deadline will take unpaid leave. A city government official stated that “a few employees will receive medical and religious exemptions.”

Unlike before, weekly testing is no longer an option. This mission replaces the city’s mission earlier this year, which tested city workers every week to ensure that they tested negative for COVID-19.

If city workers are not vaccinated, they will be taken administrative leave.

“Any city worker who has not been vaccinated by the deadline will take unpaid leave. The city official added that “a few employees will receive medical and religious exemptions.”

According to the New York Times, workers who take the first dose will receive an additional $500. “From now until October 29, workers who receive the first dose of vaccine at a city-operated vaccination site will receive an additional $500 in salary, the mayor said.”

The report states that “New York’s extended mission will affect approximately 160,000 employees, 46,000 of whom have not yet been vaccinated… There are more than 300,000 workers in the city, but due to their occupations, nearly half have already accepted strict vaccinations.”

Mayor De Blasio said: “We need to assure all New Yorkers that if you work with public officials, they will be vaccinated.”

This task was resisted by the police union. The Police Charity Association stated that it will take legal action against this authorization.

The chairman of the union, Patrick J. Lynch, said in a statement: “Since the city has taken unilateral enforcement actions, we will take legal action to protect the rights of our members.”

According to reports, this is one of the most stringent regulations in the country and was introduced after mandatory requirements for teachers and medical staff led to a surge in vaccination.
