Covid-19: Morocco suspends flights to Britain, Germany and the Netherlands-News

[ad_1]

The UK recorded nearly 50,000 new infections in a single day this week

Due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections in these countries, Morocco will suspend all flights to and from the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands until further notice. The Airport Authority of the Kingdom of North Africa said the new restrictions will take effect before midnight on Wednesday.

In a tweet, the national airline Royal Air Maroc stated that the move was due to a “pandemic situation.” It did not provide further details.

The Moroccan Ministry of Health issued a warning on Monday about the threat of a surge in the new virus, emphasizing the “need to avoid serious and critical cases and possible recurrence of Covid-19-related deaths, which have occurred in several European countries.”

In the past two weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases has risen sharply in the Netherlands and is also on the rise in Germany.

The UK recorded nearly 50,000 new infections in a single day this week. The chief executive of the healthcare umbrella group NHS Confederation said that unless measures are taken now, the healthcare system may be overwhelmed, and the government is urging millions of people to receive booster vaccines.

As flights are about to be suspended, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Moroccan citizens to contact their travel agency immediately.

The World Health Organization said that the number of new coronavirus cases across Europe increased by 7% last week, and this is the only region in the world with an increase in cases.

Earlier this month, the Russian Embassy in Rabat used the decision of the Moroccan authorities to announce the suspension of commercial flights between the two countries, but did not explain why.

Morocco has the highest vaccination rate in Africa, with more than 50% of the population fully vaccinated.

The government has also started to inject booster vaccines and stated that it is introducing the Covid-19 vaccine pass as a mandatory requirement for access to public places and travel. The decision took effect on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Health, in total, Morocco has registered more than 942,000 Covid-19 infections and 14,000 deaths.
