The military detained senior Sudanese government officials in a possible coup on Monday.
On Monday, after the Sudanese army detained senior government officials, Emirates Airline cancelled flights to and from Khartoum.
Dubai’s flagship airline said that flights to and from Khartoum (EK 733/734) were cancelled from October 25 to 27.
“Until further notice is issued at any point in the Emirates network, customers whose final destination is Khartoum will not be accepted. Affected customers should contact their booking agent for rebooking options. Emirates expresses its deep concern for any inconvenience caused. Apologies,” Emirates said in a statement on Monday.
Officials said the military detained at least five senior Sudanese government officials on Monday because the country’s major democratic groups called on people to take to the streets to fight an apparent military coup.
A sort of May be taken over by the military Since the long-time dictator Omar al-Bashir was overthrown by mass protests, Sudan has been working hard to transition to democracy, which will be a major setback for Sudan.
After several weeks of tensions between Sudan’s civilian and military leaders, senior officials were arrested. The attempted coup in September attempted to split the country along the old route, hoping that conservatives in the military government would clashed with those who overthrew Bashir in large-scale protests more than two years ago. In recent days, both camps have taken to the streets to demonstrate.
