Covid-19: Biden implements new international travel vaccine rules and lifts restrictions-News

[ad_1]

The CDC said this month that it will accept any vaccine authorized by the US regulatory agency or the World Health Organization.

The White House said that US President Joe Biden signed an order on Monday to impose new vaccine requirements on most foreign air passengers and remove strict travel restrictions on China, India and most of Europe, effective November 8. .

The United States implemented special travel restrictions for the first time in early 2020 to address the spread of Covid-19. The rule prohibits most non-US citizens who have been to the United Kingdom, 26 European Schengen countries without border controls, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran, and Brazil in the past 14 days.

“It is in the interests of the United States to get rid of the country-by-country restrictions that were previously implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic and to adopt an air travel policy that mainly relies on vaccination to promote the safe recovery of international air travel,” Biden’s announcement said.

The White House confirmed that children under the age of 18 can be exempt from the new vaccine requirements just like people with some health problems. Non-tourist travelers from nearly 50 countries with a national vaccination rate of less than 10% will also be eligible for the exemption. Those who are exempt usually need to be vaccinated within 60 days of arrival in the United States.

These countries include Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Armenia, Myanmar, Iraq, Nicaragua, Senegal, Uganda, Libya, Ethiopia, Zambia, Congo, Kenya, Yemen, Haiti, Chad and Madagascar.

The White House first disclosed on September 20 that it would remove restrictions on fully vaccinated air passengers from 33 countries/regions in early November.

“Family and friends can meet again, and tourists can visit our amazing landmarks. This policy will further promote economic recovery,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price said.

The Biden administration also detailed the requirements that airlines must comply with to confirm that foreign passengers have been vaccinated before boarding a flight to the United States.

One concern of US officials and airlines is to ensure that foreign travelers are aware of the new vaccine regulations that will take effect in just two weeks, as well as unvaccinated Americans who will face stricter testing regulations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new contact tracing rules on Monday, requiring airlines to collect information such as phone numbers, emails, and U.S. addresses from international air travellers and keep them for 30 days in case of need.” “Follow up” travelers who have been exposed to Covid-19 variants or other pathogens. “

The CDC said this month that it will accept any vaccine authorized by the U.S. regulatory agency or the World Health Organization and will accept a mixed dose of coronavirus vaccine from travelers.

This list does not include satellite vaccines that are widely used in Latin American countries.

In Mexico, the government said it plans to use its 24 million doses of artificial satellites to vaccinate nearly 9% of the population. An official in the Biden administration said on Monday that some other major vaccines “will be reviewed because performance data on these vaccines will be available during the regulatory process.”

The US Transportation Security Administration plans to issue a safety directive to provide a legal basis for airlines to implement vaccine requirements. The certificate stated that it is a crime for air passengers to lie about the vaccination status.

The CDC stated that there are no religious exemptions for international travelers seeking to avoid Covid-19 requirements.

Foreign air passengers need to provide vaccination documents from “official sources” and the airline must confirm that the last vaccination is at least two weeks before the date of travel.

International air passengers need to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test conducted within three days before departure. The White House stated that unvaccinated Americans and exempted foreigners need to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test within one day of leaving.

The Biden government plans to release details of its parallel plan later this week, which will remove land transit restrictions on vaccinated foreign nationals on November 8.
