according to CNNThe Mayor of New York City said on Monday that nearly 9,000 of New York City’s 378,000 employees are now taking unpaid leave due to non-compliance with the Covid-19 vaccine regulations for city workers.

As before Report, Firefighters and police, as well as other city workers, must present at least one dose of vaccine or proof of exemption by 5 pm on Friday.

Although 9,000 people took unpaid leave, Mayor Bai Sihao said that 92% of the city’s employees now have at least one dose of the vaccine. According to reports, approximately 2,000 of these employees have received the dose in the past 24 hours.

De Blasio also stated that “at the same time, about 12,000 other employees have applied for religious or medical exemptions and can at least continue to work until their case is decided,” CNN also reported.

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said at a press conference on Monday that in addition to unpaid leave, on the same day that the mission took effect, 2,300 firefighters were on sick leave.

“If you are sick, you are sick. This is a dangerous job. I get it. If you are not sick, I want to see you back to work,” Nigro said.

New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said, “As of Monday night, about 85% of the personnel in the department had shot at least once,” CNN reported. Although some police officers are taking unpaid leave, Shay said that public safety will not be affected.

New York City is Require all city workers vaccination. “Any city worker who has not been vaccinated by the deadline will take unpaid leave. A city official said that “a few employees will receive medical and religious exemptions.”

Unlike before, weekly testing is no longer an option. The directive replaces the city’s directive earlier this year, which tested city workers every week to ensure that they tested negative for COVID-19.
