Tina Turner sued imitators for looking too much like her

[ad_1]

There can only be one Tina Turner, and the legendary singer is letting people know this! According to reports, Ms. Tina is suing Germany for a tribute act because she looks too much like her. Daily mail.

Tina’s lawyers argued that Dorothea “Coco” Fletcher, a professional imitator in her 30s, is so similar to Tina in the poster that fans may mistakenly believe that she is a real person and think they are actually paying to watch Tina.

Fletcher performed on an unofficial tribute show called “Simply The Best”. The case has now been submitted to the German Federal Court, which will make a ruling that may affect the multi-billion dollar tribute industry because the defendant Cofo Entertainment is a German company representing Fletcher and many other tribute behaviors.

When the “Simply The Best” poster was released, Tina first jumped on this question. She filed a lawsuit against a company in Bavaria and celebrated the victory with her legal team after the Cologne court ruled that the poster might indeed mislead the public.

Afterwards, the poster was redesigned, and Tina lost the subsequent case in the Cologne Court of Appeal. The court ruled that the risk of public confusion does not exceed Fletcher’s right to express the poster.

The legal dispute has now entered the Federal Court, which held its first hearing on the matter last week.

Kastin Schmidt, a lawyer representing Tina Turner, argued that these posters did not constitute “art” but were merely advertisements.

“(Turner) wants to decide when to use her name and image for commercial purposes,” Schmidt told the court.

The entertainment company’s lawyer Brunhilde Ackermann (Brunhilde Ackermann) countered that ordinary fans would expect the tribute behavior to look like the real Tina Turner.

Considering that Tina is in her early 80s, Ackerman added that only “long-term stupid people who look at everything on the surface” will confuse the two.

Ackerman also warned the court not to make a binding ruling, because she believes it might undermine a multi-billion-dollar industry that has long been considered legitimate.

Judge Thomas Koch then questioned whether Tina Turner’s motive for filing the lawsuit was an official tribute that she allegedly supported a competitor. Koch’s final ruling on this case is expected to be in February 2022.

Although mainly performing in Germany, Fletcher is a native American who grew up in Alabama and worked as a club singer in his early years.

In 1997, Fletcher moved to Berlin and began performing on the “Concert Star” show, which was dedicated to tribute performances.

In addition to playing Tina Turner, Fletcher also sang in a performance organized by Austrian composer Udo Jürgens, who died in 2014.

She also appeared on several TV shows in Germany, including a popular dance show called “Let’s Dance”.
