[ad_1]

This week, Etihad Airways welcomed the first batch of graduates of the Aircraft Machinery Development Program after successfully obtaining the Class A aircraft maintenance license approved by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates (GCAA).

At the graduation ceremony held in the hangar of the Etihad Engineering Company, eight UAE national aircraft mechanics were commended, half of which were women. They completed a two-year course, including theoretical courses and practical seminars. The engineers worked at the Etihad engineering facility near Abu Dhabi International Airport and gained in-depth practical experience in various aircraft maintenance fields.

Commenting on the event, Dr. Nadia Bastaki, Chief Human Resources, Organizational Development and Asset Management Officer of Etihad said: “After careful analysis of Etihad’s labor needs, key roles have been defined within the organization, one of which is a key role. It is an aircraft mechanic. Therefore, the aircraft maintenance program was launched in 2019 to train skilled UAE mechanics who will play a key role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of the Etihad Airways fleet.

“We are fortunate to have eight qualified entrants among our UAE national graduates, and we are proud that half of this group of technicians are UAE national women. I would like to welcome them to our Etihad family, And look forward to their achievements and progress when they take the first step in the aviation industry. The program is very successful and we currently have 30 trainees in preparation. For those who have strong technical skills and are interested in playing a practical role in the Emirates national airline For individuals, this is a great opportunity.”

The program includes up to 24 months of basic mathematics, science, and English learning at the Higher Technical College (HCT), including 13 months of on-the-job training. After several in-depth evaluations and completion of the GCAA logbook, the aircraft mechanic obtained a “publishing service” category A license from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

By obtaining the CAT A qualification, a mechanic is eligible to be promoted to the level of aircraft technician after completing two years of work experience, and then to be promoted to aircraft engineer after gaining more experience and passing professional examinations.
