UAE relaxes anti-drug laws: those who carry THC no longer go to jail

The country strictly prohibits the sale and trafficking of drugs, and drug users can be sentenced to four years in prison.

Other changes include reducing the minimum sentence for first-time drug users from two years to three months, and providing rehabilitation services for offenders in detention facilities separate from other serious offenders. Arrested foreign drug addicts are usually deported back to their home country after going to prison, but the new law leaves the decision to the judge.
